Two new books in progress

I wanted to offer an update on new books I’ve been working on. First, SPOOK SQUAD, the third book in the Abbey Series (Abnormally Abbey and Class Clown) will be published in October of 2024 by Immortal Works Press.

And for the first time ever, I’m writing two different novels simultaneously. Life’s too short to write in the same genres, so one is a romcom and the other is a coming of age story wrapped around the music of Chicago Blues. Here’s a teaser blurb for each of them:

Different Worlds

Even though Liam and Celia both work at the same advertising agency, they don’t know each other. When their outside worlds of coaching middle school soccer come together, they find themselves at odds. It’s a collision course that’s guaranteed to create sparks.

In the bustling heart of Minneapolis, lies Glam Doll Wonderland, an advertising agency where creativity and deadlines dance in tandem, This unique agency houses two individuals living in entirely “Different Worlds.” Liam, a carefree copywriter with a penchant for mischief, has never quite let go of his childlike spirit, while Celia, an ambitious account executive, has battled her way through adversity to earn her spot in the corporate world.

Their paths collide one fateful day on the soccer field, as they are both coaching middle-grade soccer teams. It’s a match made in chaos. The impeccably organized Celia takes her coaching responsibilities seriously, orchestrating drills with military precision. On the opposite side of the field, the laid-back Liam prefers to play games, not adhere to a strict playbook. The sparks fly, both on and off the pitch, as their wildly contrasting approaches to coaching send soccer balls and snarky remarks hurtling in all directions.

However, fate has other plans in store for these two apparent opposites. In a twist of destiny, they are assigned to work on the same high-stakes advertising account at the agency, where they must learn to get along or else. Forced to collaborate, their professional dynamic proves to be just as turbulent as their coaching rivalry.

As Liam and Celia are thrown together in their daily work life, they begin to discover that beneath their contrasting styles, they share a deep passion for their work and a profound desire to succeed. Along the way, they unearth a connection that transcends the boundaries of their seemingly “Different Worlds.”

As the campaign for their client takes shape, so does the undeniable attraction between them. Amid the witty banter, playful teasing, and mutual respect that blossoms, the lines between their professional and personal lives blur. And, just like their soccer teams on the field, they find themselves scoring goals together.

“Different Worlds” is a heartwarming romantic comedy that explores the clash of contrasting personalities in both work and play, and how sometimes, opposites truly do attract. In a world where chaos meets order, and ambition finds balance with spontaneity, Liam and Celia discover that the most beautiful stories are often written by the unlikeliest of duos, creating an unforgettable tale of love, laughter, and the art of finding common ground in a world of differences.

Mannish Boys

“This is dangerous music for dangerous people.”

Mannish Boys weaves a tale of music, mystery, and adventure, set against the backdrop of the city’s iconic blues clubs. Exploring themes of friendship, loyalty, and the power of music to bring people together, the blues soundtrack serves as the heartbeat of the narrative.

Lifelong friends Drew and Makao are at a crossroads, one headed to MIT, the other joining the army. They want one last weekend adventure together as they visit the Chicago blues clubs. However, their night quickly takes a different direction when they meet a pair of mysterious and enigmatic women, Penn and Logan, at the blues club. The women convince them to go on a journey through the hidden gems of Chicago’s blues scene, promising an unforgettable night when they complete their quest.

Deciding to do something dangerous, Drew and Makao start a chain of events that have them running from trouble. Turns out there’s a fine line between dangerous and stupid.

As the night unfolds, they must confront the dangers they initiated, leading to a climax that tests the strength of their bond and their ability to navigate the unpredictable world of the Chicago blues.

With every chapter themed after a famous blues song, the book dives into the beauty and pain that is the blues.
